Risk Matters - Artemis Strategic Assets
In Absolute return funds - sidestepping bonds we look at the best of the absolute return funds, and our article Off beaten track considers funds that do things a bit differently to the mainstream. Here we introduce the Artemis Strategic Assets fund.
We first highlighted the fund a year ago. Even though only launched in May 2009, it rapidly attracted advisers and investors in the know, who knew of William Littlewood’s pedigree.
Although the fund is too young to formally analyse risk, we observe that falls in the price (downside volatility) are about half that of the FTSE 100, the UK market being its primary hunting ground. Yet since launch it is up 40%, just shy of FTSE 100, despite somewhat less risk.
A similar fund to Newton Real Return though not in the Absolute Return sector. The manager is very pro-active, and regularly communicates his unfolding strategy, something we value highly in volatile markets. An outstanding fund which already features in our short list.
